(670 The Score) Shortstop Andrelton Simmons and the Cubs have reached an agreement on a deal as free agency ramped up Friday evening.

Simmons will join the Cubs on a one-year, $4-million contract that includes incentives, Audacy Sports insider Jon Heyman reported. The Athletic first reported that the sides were on the verge of a deal.

Simmons, 32, hit .223 with three homers, 31 RBIs and a .558 OPS in 131 games for the Twins last season. He’s a career .265 hitter with a .683 OPS. Simmons is also a four-time Gold Glove winner and has been one of the best defenders as his position for most of the past decade.

The Cubs have been rumored to be one of the front-runners to land star shortstop Carlos Correa on the free-agent market. The addition of Simmons isn’t believed to affect that pursuit in any way.
