(670 The Score) The Cubs have added to their starting rotation.
Left-hander Matthew Boyd has agreed to a two-year, $29-million deal with the Cubs, Jon Heyman of the New York Post and MLB Network reported early Monday morning. Boyd projects to slot into the mix at the back end of the Cubs’ rotation.
The 33-year-old Boyd posted a 2.72 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 39 2/3 innings across eight starts with the Guardians in 2024, when he missed most of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023.
Boyd has a career 4.85 ERA in 10 MLB seasons. He had a 5.45 ERA in 2023 before going down with his elbow injury. Boyd has been injury-plagued in recent seasons, as he also had flexor tendon surgery in 2021.
