(670 The Score) The Cubs received good news Tuesday, as injured outfielders Jason Heyward and Jake Marisnick were set to leave Chicago and join the Triple-A Iowa club in Omaha on Wednesday for a short rehab stint.
The Cubs’ hope is that Heyward and Marisnick can rejoin the team at some point during their four-game series at San Francisco, one that begins Thursday night.
“Marisnick and Jason are doing well and will catch a flight and catch up with Iowa to get some games under their belt,” manager David Ross said. "Hopefully they will meet us in San Francisco.”
Heyward has been out since May 19 with a strained left hamstring. He’s hitting .183 with four homers, 13 RBIs and a .595 OPS in 39 games this season.
Marisnick emerged as a key contributor for the Cubs after signing a one-year deal with them in the offseason. He’s hitting .264 with four homers, 14 RBIs and a .973 OPS in 27 games and has played strong defense as well.
