(670 The Score) The Cubs have optioned light-hitting infielder Nick Madrigal to Triple-A Iowa to open up a roster spot for right-hander Kyle Hendricks, who will return to the mound Thursday evening after being sidelined by a shoulder injury since last July.
Madrigal, 26, was hitting .247 with no homers, nine RBIs and a .587 OPS in 34 games for the Cubs this season. He had primarily played third base, a position he worked a great deal at in spring training after previously playing second base.
Hendricks will be back on the mound when the Cubs host the Mets at Wrigley Field. Pregame coverage starts at 6:05 p.m. on 670 The Score, while first pitch is set for 6:40 p.m.
