(670 The Score) The Cubs on Tuesday optioned top pitching prospect Caleb Kilian back to Triple-A Iowa after his recent struggles, according to multiple reports.
Kilian, 25, has a 10.32 ERA and 2.03 WHIP in 11 1/3 innings across three starts for the Cubs. He was roughed up in the Cubs’ 12-1 loss to the Pirates on Monday, allowing seven runs, including five earned, in 2 1/3 innings while giving up three hits and five walks to go with three strikeouts.
In a corresponding move, Chicago recalled right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. from Triple-A Iowa. He has a 6.23 ERA in seven appearances for Chicago this season.
