(670 The Score) The Cubs on Monday optioned right-hander Hayden Wesneski to Triple-A Iowa amid a series of roster moves.

Chicago also recalled right-hander Jeremiah Estrada from Triple-A, placed right-hander Brad Boxberger on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain, selected the contract of right-hander Nick Burdi from Triple-A and transferred right-hander Adrian Sampson to the 60-day injured list.

Wesneski entered the season with high expectations after a strong finish to the 2022 season and with good work in spring training. That earned him a spot in the rotation to open the season, but he has struggled, posting a 5.03 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 39 1/3 innings across eight starts.

Estrada, 24, threw four scoreless innings in three appearances for the Cubs earlier this season.

Boxberger had been struggling, with a 5.52 ERA in 17 appearances.

Burdi, 30, had a 3.38 ERA in 11 appearances at Triple-A Iowa this season. He has a 9.49 ERA in 16 career MLB appearances.

Sampson is recovery from a right meniscus injury, which landed him on the injured list in early May.

The Cubs open a three-game series at the Houston Astros on Monday. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. Pregame coverage starts at 6:35 p.m. on 670 The Score.
