MILWAUKEE, Wis. (670 The Score) -- Cubs infielder Patrick Wisdom left the team's game Wednesday afternoon after being involved in a collision at first base. Wisdom is dealing with soreness on the right side of his neck and a left eye contusion, the team later said.
Wisdom walked off under his own power but was in clear discomfort after being down for several minutes in the bottom of the second inning during the series finale against the Brewers at American Family Field. He suffered the injury reaching for an errant throw at first base from right-hander Jake Arrieta. Brewers right fielder Tyrone Taylor ran into Wisdom's left arm and forced him into an awkward fall.
Wisdom was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored in the first inning alone. He was hitting .295 at the time of the injury.
Wisdom was playing first base because the Cubs were shorthanded with Anthony Rizzo (lower back) and Kris Bryant (right side soreness) out. He was replaced at first base by Taylor Gushue, a catcher called up from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday who was making his MLB debut.
The Brewers went on to earn a 15-7 win.
