Cubs place reliever Adbert Alzolay on injured list

(670 The Score) The Cubs on Monday placed righty reliever Adbert Alzolay on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain.

Alzolay has struggled this season, going 1-4 with a 4.67 ERA in 18 appearances. He allowed a two-run homer during the Cubs' 5-4 win over the Pirates on Sunday, though he picked up his fourth save of the season in the process.

After opening the season as the Cubs' closer, Alzolay was demoted to a lower-leverage role out of the bullpen. It's unclear how much time he could miss with this injury.

The Cubs didn't immediately announce a corresponding move to fill Alzolay's spot on the roster.

The Cubs open a three-game series against the Braves on Monday evening in Atlanta. The game can be heard on 670 The Score or by downloading the Audacy app. First pitch is set for 6:20 p.m.
