Cubs place right-hander Keegan Thompson on the injured list with a right rib fracture amid a series of roster moves

(670 The Score) The Cubs have placed right-hander Keegan Thompson on the injured list with a right rib fracture amid a series of roster moves Friday.

Chicago also selected the contract of right-hander Jorge Lopez from Triple-A Iowa, recalled right-hander Ethan Roberts from Triple-A and designated recently acquired right-hander Vinny Nittoli for assignment.

Thompson has posted a 3.50 ERA in 18 innings across 13 appearances this season.

Lopez, 31, had a 3.76 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 28 appearances for the Mets this season before they let him go following a tirade in which he threw his glove into the stands. He has a career 5.42 ERA in nine MLB seasons.

Roberts has thrown 15 innings at Triple-A Iowa without allowing an earned run this season.

The Cubs signed Nittoli ahead of their game against the Giants on Thursday. He didn’t appear in the game.
