(670 The Score) The Cubs have placed infielder Matt Duffy on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain.
The move is retroactive to Sunday. Duffy has been a solid contributor for the Cubs this season, hitting .278 with one homer, 12 RBIs and a .733 OPS in 38 games. He has made 21 starts.
In corresponding moves, Chicago selected the contract of infielder Patrick Wisdom from Triple-A Iowa and designated injured reliever Jason Adam for assignment. Wisdom, 29, is hitting .160 with three homers, 11 RBIs and a .913 OPS in eight games at Triple-A this season.
In other injury news, catcher Willson Contreras is out of the Cubs’ starting lineup against the Pirates on Tuesday, two days after he took a pitch from closer Craig Kimbrel off his left wrist after they got crossed up on signals in a win against the Cardinals. X-rays were negative and he has been diagnosed with a wrist contusion, manager David Ross said Tuesday afternoon. His wrist was feeling "much better" when he woke up Tuesday, Ross added.
