Right-hander Alec Mills (low back strain), left-hander Wade Miley (left elbow inflammation) and infielder Andrelton Simmons (right shoulder inflammation) landed on the 10-day injured list. Mills felt tightness throwing recently, Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said on the Bernstein & Rahimi Show on Thursday morning. Hoyer indicated Mills' injury isn't serious and noted the Cubs don't need a No. 5 starter until the second week of the season because they have an off day Monday.

To open the season, the Cubs chose to carry 14 pitchers on their 28-man roster, which will be reduced to 26 players all across MLB after May 1. Here’s a look at the makeup of the Opening Day roster for the Cubs.
