(670 The Score) The Cubs have made an addition to their beleaguered bullpen.
Chicago will sign righty reliever Vinny Nittoli to a big league deal, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported Thursday morning. The 33-year-old Nittoli was recently designated for assignment by the Oakland Athletics after he posted a 2.25 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in eight innings of work this season. Nittoli has a 3.07 ERA in 13 appearances across four MLB seasons.
The Cubs bullpen has been a big weakness, as the club has blown 17 save chances this season. Cubs relievers have combined for a 4.52 ERA in 2024, a figure that ranks 24th in MLB.
The Cubs have lost four straight games to drop to 37-44. They’ll wrap up a series against the Giants in San Francisco on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:45 p.m. CT. The game can be heard on 670 The Score or by downloading the Audacy app.
