(670 The Score) The Cubs are playing mediocre baseball in going 8-8 since the All-Star break, and they now trail the red-hot Brewers by three games in the NL Central race.
While the Cubs’ outlook isn’t as rosy as it was weeks ago, they’re still tied for the second-best record in baseball at 65-47 and have plenty of time to make up ground in the division, left fielder Ian Happ reminded everyone during an interview on the Rahimi & Harris Show on Tuesday.
"If you have the second-best record in baseball or wherever we’re at, you hope you’re a few games up in the division, but it's a credit to the Brewers,” Happ said. “They've played great ball, and they’ve done a really good job just with the pitching staff and bullpen. We had a good series with them up in Milwaukee, and you see why they are where they’re at. It’s going to be a good series when they come here (to Wrigley Field) for those five games in four days in August. But there's a lot of baseball left. Every game right now is being treated like it's the end of the season, but there's a lot of baseball left and plenty of series to go. It’s going to make for a really fun next couple of months.”
The Cubs and Brewers will play a five-game series from Aug. 18-21 at Wrigley Field, a set that begins with a makeup game as part of a doubleheader.
The Cubs will host the Reds on Tuesday at Wrigley Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CT. The game can be heard on 670 The Score and the Audacy app. Pregame coverage starts at 6:30 p.m.
