(670 The Score) The biggest storyline in MLB free agency this offseason will be where each standout in the star-studded shortstop class lands.

Carlos Correa (Twins), Trea Turner (Dodgers), Xander Bogaerts (Red Sox) and Dansby Swanson (Braves) have all hit the open market after producing at high levels for their teams. And as Jon Heyman of the New York Post and Audacy Sports pointed out on the Mully & Haugh Show on Friday morning, at least nine teams – mostly in big markets – are going to be interested in signing one of the standout shortstops.

Heyman listed the Twins, Dodgers, Red Sox, Braves, Phillies, Cardinals, Cubs, Mariners and Giants as clubs that plan on being in the shortstop mix.

As it pertains to the Cubs, Heyman believes Correa would be the best fit to sign in Chicago. Behind him, Bogaerts would also be a good fit on a lucrative-but-less expensive deal if money becomes a factor.

Turner wants to be on the East Coast, Heyman said, while the Braves are going to make a strong push to keep Swanson.

“The best fit for the Cubs, Correa (28) is a couple years younger than Bogaerts (30), and we’re talking about a team that’s really still rebuilding,” Heyman said. “Although they played well the last couple of months, the Cubs are rebuilding. They are young. Correa is the best fit if they’re going to spend $300 million.”

Correa hit .291 with 22 homers, 64 RBIs and an .834 OPS in 136 games for the Twins this past season. He's also a standout defensive shortstop. Correa opted out of his contract to hit the open market.

Bogaerts hit .307 with 15 homers, 73 RBIs and an .833 OPS in 150 games for the Red Sox in 2022.
