(AUDACY) Infielder/outfielder Kris Bryant made his debut for the San Francisco Giants on Sunday following the trade Friday that sent him there from the Chicago Cubs, for whom he played his first six-and-a-half MLB seasons.

Bryant, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, is meant to be a rental for the Giants as they hope he can help them win the NL West and make a deep postseason run. But Bryant isn’t ruling out the possibility of staying in San Francisco longer than the next few months and signing with the team long term.

“It’s definitely enticing,” Bryant told reporters before the game Sunday.

Bryant, 29 added that when the trade happened, he and his wife talked about “how we both thought we would end up here” at some point. A Las Vegas native, Bryant grew up as a big fan of Barry Bonds and the Giants, he said.

After struggling in 2020, Bryant has returned to the All-Star form that helped him win the NL MVP award in 2016 and lead the Cubs to their first World Series in 108 years.

Bryant entered Sunday with a slash line of .267/.358/.503 and 18 home runs and 51 RBIs. And it didn't take him long to jack those numbers up.

In his second at-bat against the Astros on Sunday, Bryant ripped a solo home run into the left field seats to narrow the Giants’ deficit to 2-1.
