(670 The Score) In what’s been an up-and-down campaign for him personally, Cubs third baseman Patrick Wisdom had the best moment of his season Sunday.

Wisdom hit a go-ahead two run homer in the Cubs’ eventual 4-3 win against the Rockies at Wrigley Field. The victory was instrumental for the Cubs, who are sitting in the final National League wild-card spot entering play Tuesday. At 82-74, the Cubs are one game ahead of the Marlins (81-75), who hold the tiebreaker between the two teams.

“He’s awesome,” Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner said of Wisdom on the Parkins & Spiegel Show on Tuesday. “He’s such a resilient person. Look at his entire career and the time he spent in the minor leagues and just his persistence.

“He’s had an elemental role down the stretch here for us, and I feel like his quality of at-bat has still just been so high. It’s been really impressive. That homer was kind of crazy because from the beginning of the inning, we were all speaking it into existence. For some reason, you could just kind of like see this inning unfolding with the starter still out on the mound and it being a great matchup for Wis. I feel like he’s had a pretty good flair for the dramatic and has had great at-bats lately and kind of just missed on some balls. We were like, ‘Don’t leave him it, it’s going to be one batter too long.’

“While that pitch was in the air, the whole dugout just like expected that to happen. Then he just absolutely crushed it, and it was electric.”

Wisdom is hitting .207 with 22 homers, 45 RBIs and a .798 OPS in 93 games this season. He was a regular in the Cubs’ lineup in the first half of the season but has had a sporadic, matchup-based role in the past couple months.

The Cubs start a three-game series against the Braves at Truist Park on Tuesday evening. Pregame coverage on 670 The Score starts at 5:45 p.m. CT, with first pitch set for 6:20 p.m.
