(670 The Score) The Cubs have added another veteran to their outfield mix.
The team is an agreement with outfielder Jake Marisnick on a contract, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports and MLB Network first reported Thursday morning. The deal is worth $1 million in 2021 and includes a $4-million mutual option for the 2022 season, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reported. There's also a $500,000 buyout for 2022 if the option isn't exercised. The deal is pending a physical.
Marisnick, 29, is a .229 hitter with a .666 OPS in his eight-year MLB career. He hit .333 in limited action in 16 games for the Mets in 2020. Marisnick hit .233 with 10 homers, 34 RBIs and a .700 OPS in 120 games for the Astros in 2019.
Marisnick will compete in an outfield mix that includes Ian Happ, Jason Heyward and Joc Pederson, whom the Cubs signed to a one-year, $8-million deal recently in free agency. The Cubs also claimed outfielder Phillip Ervin off waivers from the Mariners in December.
