Reports: Cubs shut down Jason Heyward, Keegan Thompson for remainder of season

(670 The Score) Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward and right-hander Keegan Thompson are done for the remaining of the season, according to reports Tuesday afternoon.

They’ll both miss the final six games of the regular season. Heyward hasn’t played since suffering a concussion on a slide in a game on Sept. 11. He hit .214 with eight homers, 30 RBIs and a .627 OPS in 104 games in 2021.

Thompson, 26, was placed on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. He went 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 32 appearances this season, including six starts as the Cubs gave him a look in the rotation late in the campaign.

In a corresponding move, the Cubs recalled right-hander Jason Adam from Triple-A Iowa. He has a 7.27 ERA in 10 appearances this season.
