(670 The Score) In a matter of just more than 24 hours, the Cubs sat idly by and watched what they envisioned would be three-fifths of their starting rotation in the 2020 season sign elsewhere in free agency.
Left-hander Jose Quintana has agreed with the Angels on a one-year, $8-million deal, according to multiple reports Tuesday night. Quintana found a new home one day after left-hander Jon Lester agreed with the Nationals on a one-year deal and right-hander Tyler Chatwood joined the Blue Jays.
Quintana will be reunited with former Cubs manager Joe Maddon in Los Angeles. He played for Maddon from 2017-’19 in Chicago.
Quintana, Lester and Chatwood were initially in line to fill three of the Cubs’ rotation spots in 2020, but Quintana and Chatwood dealt with injury issues. Quintana’s season was derailed when he missed the first four weeks after suffering a hand laceration that required surgery. Quintana had a 4.50 ERA in four appearances in 2020, when he also dealt with a lat injury.
Quintana, who turns 32 this coming Sunday, had a 4.68 ERA in 2019, when he had 32 appearances, including 31 starts.
