(670 The Score) It appears White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf had a succession plan in mind before he fired executive vice president Ken Williams and general manager Rick Hahn on Tuesday.

Current White Sox assistant general manager Chris Getz and former Royals lead executive Dayton Moore are the “overwhelming favorites” to be the next leaders of Chicago’s baseball operations department, Bob Nightengale reported Wednesday morning. Getz is expected to be named the next White Sox general manager, while the exact role and title that Moore could hold wasn’t immediately clear. The White Sox plan to hire a single decision-maker to lead their baseball operations department, the team said in a press release. They hope to have a new leader installed by the end of the season.

Moore, 56, is currently serving as a senior advisor for the Rangers after being fired by the Royals last September. Kansas City went to the World Series in 2014 and won the title in 2015 under Moore’s direction, but the Royals otherwise struggled for most of his tenure that lasted from 2006-’22, with just three above-.500 seasons in that 17-year run.

Getz, 39, has held his assistant general manager/player development title since 2021. Prior to that, he was the White Sox’s director of player development from 2017-’20. He worked under Moore in the Royals’ front office in 2015 and 2016.

In Getz’s tenure, the White Sox have often had one of MLB's lowest-rated farm systems, save for the occasions in which they traded premier big league talent for highly rated prospects from other organizations. They currently have three of the top 100 prospects in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.
