(670 The Score) The White Sox fell to a season-worst 19 games under the .500 mark on Sunday after allowing three runs in the ninth inning in a 5-4 loss to the Twins, part of a three-game sweep in Minnesota.
As the White Sox continue to flounder this season, it has become apparent that they will be selling off key players prior to MLB’s Aug. 1 trade deadline. Audacy baseball insider Jon Heyman told the Mully & Haugh Show that White Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito may have made his last start with the team Sunday and is bound to be traded.
“The White Sox have been open for business for a while now,” Heyman said. “There just doesn’t seem to be much activity to this point. Some of the contending teams are waiting to see whether (Marcus) Stroman, whether (Blake) Snell, whether (Justin) Verlander may be out there. I think there will probably be a lot of activity at the end, and if I were to guess I’d say it will probably happen at the end. But he’s going to be traded. I mean, there’s no question about that at this point.”
Giolito is 6-6 with a 3.79 ERA over 21 starts this season. He is 59-53 with a 4.26 ERA in his career. Giolito was a key return for the White Sox in a 2017 trade with the Nationals.
The 29-year-old Giolito is set to become a free agent after this season.
The White Sox host the Cubs for a two-game series starting Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
