(670 The Score) Catcher Martin Maldonado has agreed to join the White Sox on a one-year deal, according to multiple reports.
Maldonado, 37, had played for the Astros for the past four-and-a-half seasons, and he helped Houston win the World Series in 2022. Maldonado has long been a strong defensive player who has been praised for his work with pitching staffs, but his offensive performance has been poor in recent seasons. Maldonado hit .191 with a .606 OPS in 116 games in 2023. He hasn’t had an OPS above .606 in any of the past three seasons.
Maldonado is expected to split catching duties with Korey Lee, whom the White Sox acquired from the Astros in a trade in late July.
