(670 The Score) As expected, catcher James McCann won’t return to the White Sox.

McCann and the Mets are finalizing a four-year deal worth $40 million or more, according to multiple reports Saturday. McCann will become the Mets’ starting catcher, a role that wasn’t available to him with the White Sox, who have Yasmani Grandal under contract for three more seasons. McCann's deal with the Mets is pending a physical, according to reports.

McCann, 30, hit .289 with an .896 OPS in 31 games in 2020. He was also named a Gold Glove finalist. The White Sox had originally signed McCann in December 2018 after he was non-tendered by the Tigers, and his remarkable turnaround in two years has landed him a lucrative contract. McCann was an All-Star in 2019, when he hit .273 with 18 homers, 60 RBIs and a .789 OPS in 118 games.
