White Sox infielder Elvis Andrus recorded his 2,000th career hit Wednesday on a single to right field off Giants right-hander Logan Webb during the fifth inning of Chicago's eventual 7-3 win at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Andrus celebrated with a flip of the bat when he watched the ball get past Giants second baseman David Villar's outstretched glove.
The White Sox crowd gave Andrus a standing ovation when the milestone was posted on the video board. Andrus becomes the first player to record his 2,000th hit in a White Sox uniform since Juan Pierre in 2011.
"That's a lot of hits, a lot of memories," Andrus told reporters postgame. "Every hit means a lot, from the first one to the 2,000th today. It means a lot to me."
Andrus, 34, spent the first 12 years of his career with the Rangers, for whom he compiled 1,743 hits. He was traded to the Athletics in 2021 and spent 1 1/2 seasons in Oakland before being released in 2022. He quickly signed with the White Sox and spent the final two months of last season on the South Side.
Just before spring training began, Chicago re-signed Andrus to a one-year, $3-million deal to be its second baseman in 2023.
