Right-hander Vince Velasquez has agreed to a deal to join the White Sox, Robert Murray of FanSided reported Sunday. The deal is contingent on Velasquez passing a physical.
Velasquez, 29, has struggled mightily across the past two seasons. He had a 6.30 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 25 appearances, including 21 starts, split between the Phillies and Padres in 2021. That came after he posted a 5.56 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.
He has a career 4.95 ERA across seven MLB seasons.
