(670 The Score) New White Sox general manager Chris Getz hasn’t yet reached out to good friend and current Rangers advisor Dayton Moore about joining Chicago’s front office, but it sounds like Getz would like to make a reunion happen soon enough.
Getz, 40, worked under Moore, 56, in the Royals’ front office in 2015 and 2016, with Kansas City winning the World Series in the first of those two years. Shortly after the White Sox fired executive vice president Ken Williams and general manager Rick Hahn on Aug. 22, speculation began swirling that the 56-year-old Moore would join the White Sox front office to provide veteran guidance to the first-time general manager Getz, who did nothing to stifle those rumors during an appearance on the Mully & Haugh Show on Friday morning.
“I’m open-minded to bring in different voices,” Getz said. “There’s some people outside the organization that I already have a stronger relationship with than others. You speak of Dayton. We haven’t had those conversations. He’s currently helping Chris Young, one of his former players who’s leading the Texas Rangers right now, and they’re obviously up and running and chasing the playoffs. I have a tremendous amount of respect for (Moore). He’s one of the most respected guys in this game. I would be honored to work with him again in some capacity. But I’m not going to be close-minded either. I know there are going to be others that I haven’t worked closely with, that I don’t know well from organizations that perhaps have had a lot of success and different experiences who could strengthen the group that we have here. I want to energize this place. I want to be innovative, and I just want to create new strategy so we can feel good going in, our fans will go out there and show up on a daily basis, on a nightly basis and get excited to watch some quality baseball.”
