(670 The Score) The struggling White Sox made a plethora of roster moves Tuesday afternoon as they look for spark amid their 8-21 start.
In roster additions, Chicago reinstated All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson and infielder Hanser Alberto from the injured list and selected the contracts of right-hander Alexander Colome, left-hander Sammy Peralta and outfielder Billy Hamilton from Triple-A Charlotte.
In roster subtractions, the White Sox optioned outfielder Oscar Colas and infielder Lenyn Sosa to Triple-A and designated left-hander Jake Diekman and right-hander Frank German for assignment. Additionally, Chicago placed right-hander Joe Kelly on the paternity list and placed infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez on the 10-day injured list due to right shoulder inflammation.
Anderson had been out since April 10 with a sprained left knee. The engine of the White Sox’s offense, he’s hitting .298 in 11 games this season. Alberto is hitting .211 in eight games.
Colome had posted a 3.38 ERA in eight appearances at Triple-A. He previously pitched for the White Sox in 2019 and 2020. Peralta had a 3.52 ERA in eight appearances at Triple-A. Hamilton was hitting .188 at Triple this season.
Colas was demoted as he was hitting .211 with a .541 OPS in 25 games. He was mired in a 5-for-40 slump as well. Sosa was hitting .151 with a .412 OPS in 16 games.
Diekman was awful for the White Sox after the team acquired him before the trade deadline in 2022. He had a 7.94 ERA in 13 outings this season. He had a 7.04 ERA in 39 appearances in his White Sox tenure.
German had a 7.15 ERA at Triple-A this season.
Kelly and Gonzalez had been struggling before landing on the injured list. Kelly has a 7.71 ERA in five appearances, and Gonzalez is hitting .139 in 21 games.
The White Sox host the Twins on Tuesday evening at Guaranteed Rate Field.
