Jimenez suffered the injury in Chicago’s 9-2 loss at Minnesota on Saturday while running out a ground ball in the second inning. He stretched toward first base, landed awkwardly and immediately fell to the ground in pain. He had to be carted off the field.

The White Sox officially placed Jimenez on the 10-day injured list Sunday. Once he returns to Chicago, he’ll undergo further evaluation by team physicians at Rush, and a treatment plan will be implemented. The White Sox expect to announce further details on Jimenez’s status Tuesday.

Jimenez, 25, is hitting .222 with one homer, seven RBIs and a .590 OPS in 11 games this season. He’s one of the White Sox’s best hitter when healthy, averaging 37 homers per 162 games in his injury-plagued career.

Jimenez missed the majority of the 2021 season after suffering a torn pectoral in spring training. He played in just 55 games last season.

Jimenez’s injury is the latest in a string of them for the White Sox. Ace Lance Lynn (knee) and third baseman Yoan Moncada (oblique) haven’t played yet this season. Right-hander Lucas Giolito has been out since leaving his Opening Day start, though he’s set to return to the mound against the Twins on Sunday. Center fielder Luis Robert is also currently out with a groin injury. He could return to action Tuesday.
