(670 The Score) White Sox slugger Eloy Jimenez was carted off the field during the second inning of his team's 9-2 loss against the Twins on Saturday after suffering a right hamstring injury that manager Tony La Russa later called significant.

The White Sox are still awaiting the results of an MRI that will determine how severe Jimenez's injury is. Based on initial information, La Russa and the team don't expect the injury to be season-ending, according to reports. Jimenez was distraught upon suffering the injury, La Russa told reporters postgame.

Jimenez suffered the injury as he hustled out a ground ball to third base. He stretched toward first base and immediately fell to the ground in pain after his right leg landed awkwardly. The White Sox initially cited right hamstring soreness as the injury but didn't provide further details as they awaited further evaluation.

Jimenez missed the majority of the 2021 season after suffering a torn pectoral in spring training. He played in just 55 games last season.

Jimenez, 25, is hitting .222 with one homer, seven RBIs and a .590 OPS this season. He's one of the team's best hitters when healthy, averaging 37 homers per 162 games in an MLB career that has often been derailed by injury.
