Kelly suffered his injury while running into the fracas during a benches-clearing incident between the White Sox and Pirates in Chicago's 1-0 loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday, according to reports later Monday afternoon. Kelly's placement on the injured list is retroactive to Sunday. He has allowed three earned runs in 2 2/3 innings across three appearances this season.
Additionally, Chicago selected the contract of right-hander Keynan Middleton from Triple-A Charlotte and outrighted right-hander Jonathan Stiever to Charlotte. Middleton has thrown three scoreless innings for Charlotte this season. He has a career 4.01 ERA across parts of six MLB seasons.
Stiever has thrown two scoreless innings at Triple-A Charlotte this season.
