Avila, 25, has a 3.66 ERA across three minor league seasons. San Francisco selected him in the 26th round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

In 2022, Avila posted a 1.14 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 47 appearances across High-A and Double-A in the Giants’ organization. He struck out 58 batters and walked 14 in 55 1/3 innings.

Avila will compete for a role in the White Sox’s bullpen, general manager Rick Hahn told James Fegan of the Athletic.

If MLB teams don't keep a Rule 5 Draft selection on their active roster for the full season, the player must be offered back to his former club.
