Reports: White Sox tab Will Venable to be their new manager

(670 The Score) Rangers associate manager Will Venable has agreed to a deal to become the White Sox’s new manager, according to multiple reports late Tuesday night.

Venable, 42, has worked alongside four-time World Series-winning manager Bruce Bochy for the past two seasons in Texas, which won the championship in 2023. Venable will become the 44th manager in White Sox history and fill the opening that was created when the club fired Pedro Grifol on Aug. 8.

Scott Merkin of MLB.com was the first to report the news of the White Sox tabbing Venable as their next manager.

Long considered a bright mind, Venable had a nine-year MLB playing career and worked for the Cubs from 2017-’20, first in their front office and then as their first-base coach and third-base coach. Venable was then the Red Sox’s bench coach for two seasons before joining the Rangers.

The White Sox went 41-121 in 2024, setting an MLB record for the most losses in a single season. The White Sox were 28-89 under Grifol’s direction and then went 13-32 under the guidance of interim manager Grady Sizemore.
