(670 The Score) The White Sox-Yankees game set to be played in the Bronx on Wednesday evening was postponed due to poor air quality in the New York area. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Thursday.
The air quality in New York right now is among the worst in the world amid Canadian wildfires that have led to smoke and a haze in the city. The Tigers-Phillies game set to be played in Philadelphia was also postponed until Thursday.
"These postponements were determined following conversations throughout the day with medical and weather experts and all of the impacted clubs regarding clearly hazardous air quality conditions in both cities," MLB said in a statement.
Earlier, the National Weather Service issued a warning regarding the air quality.
"The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects,” it read.
There are more than 400 fires blazing in Canada, according to the Associated Press, leading to smoke across the East Coast and Midwest.
The White Sox won 3-2 in the series opener Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. The opener of the doubleheader Thursday will start at 3:05 p.m. CT.
