(670 The Score) Former White Sox left-hander Mark Buehrle and former Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez were among the 11 new additions to the 2021 Hall of Fame ballot, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced Monday.
Buehrle spent the first 12 seasons of his 16-year MLB career with the White Sox, for whom he won 161 games and posted a 3.83 ERA. Buehrle was a five-time All-Star, including in 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2009 during his Chicago tenure. He was also a four-time Gold Glove winner.
Buehrle won 214 games and had a 3.81 ERA in his career. He was 16-8 with a 3.12 ERA in 2005, when he finished fifth in the American League Cy Young race and helped lead the White Sox to a World Series title.
Ramirez spent nine of his 18 MLB seasons with the Cubs, hitting .294 with 239 homers and 806 RBIs for them from 2003-’11. Ramirez was a three-time All-Star, including in 2005 and 2008 with the Cubs. Ramirez hit .283 with 386 homers in his career.
A.J. Burnett, Michael Cuddyer, Dan Haren, LaTroy Hawkins, Tim Hudson, Torii Hunter, Nick Swisher, Shane Victorino and Barry Zito were the others to debut on the ballot. Haren ended his career by pitching for the Cubs in 2015. Hawkins pitched for the Cubs in 2004 and 2005. Swisher played for the White Sox in 2008.
The BBWAA will announce the 2021 Hall of Fame class results on Jan. 26. The Hall of Fame induction will come on July 25.
