(670 The Score) An original on The Score, Dan Jiggetts looks back with pride on the birth of an iconic brand.

Jiggetts grew up in New York and went to school at Harvard before arriving in Chicago as offensive tackle with the Bears from 1976-’82. From that point forward, he was a fixture in the city. Jiggetts joined The Score when the radio station was born in 1992, pairing with Mike North on the Monsters of the Midday show.

Jiggetts joined the Parkins & Spiegel Show on Thursday to discuss his pairing with North as The Score continues its year-long 30th anniversary celebration by bringing on influential figures from the station’s past.

“I don’t care where you come from, you sit down and listen to people, you talk to people and it doesn’t make any difference what your credentials are,” Jiggetts said of North. “It's what you know and also what you don’t know. Mike obviously had a great background in following sports. I mean, that was very clear from the beginning. So, I knew it was going to be fun. He was off the wall sometimes, absolutely. There were some times I gave him that look, sure, absolutely. But I think the thing was when we first started out, we wanted to make it work. That’s the important thing.

“You don’t become successful because somebody hands you something. You become successful because you work hard at it and you try to get better every day. That’s what we did. I can honestly say this: We never took a day off and we never mailed it in.

“Every time we came out, we came out to play.”
