(670 The Score) It didn’t take legendary Score host Terry Boers long to pinpoint one of the biggest reasons why the Boers & Bernstein Show found such great success for nearly two decades.
Executive producer Matt Abbatacola gave fellow host Dan Bernstein hell all the time and would legitimately get upset with him.
“One of the most important parts of our show was that fact that he hated you,” Boers told Bernstein.
“You’re not lying,” Bernstein responded. “That was an important dynamic.”
“That was one of the best things about our show, that we were honest,” Boers said. “Some people hide that – ‘You’re not going to come forward when you said you hate him.’ Well yeah, (Abbatacola) would. And he did.
And here he is.”
And with that, Abbatacola walked up to the set at Real Time Sports on Wednesday afternoon in Elk Grove Village, where the Score was celebrating its 30th anniversary. He needed to clarify a small matter.
“Let’s it straight – I didn’t hate Dan,” Abbatacola said. “I just didn’t like Dan.”
On a more serious note, Abbatacola explained further that his relationship with Bernstein was that of love and hate in the professional sense.
“I love Dan dearly, I always will love Dan,” Abbatacola said. “But I also didn’t like Dan at the same time, especially on the air. What people might’ve thought was a bit or part of the show, it was genuine.
“We talk about it as the Score family, say Score family, Score family. It’s legit what it is. People have different definitions of what family is, and people can create different images of what a family is based on their own experiences, but this really is a family. Where I legit wanted to punch you sometimes. But we were like siblings.
“There’s always been respect for you, but I didn’t always like you.”
