DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) -- The Texas Rangers hired former San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy as their their new manager Friday, the team announced.

"On behalf of the entire organization, I want to welcome Bruce and Kim Bochy to the Texas Rangers," Rangers general manager Chris Young said in a statement. "In his 25 years with San Diego and San Francisco, Bruce was one of the most successful and respected managers in Major League Baseball. With a calm and steady presence he has a remarkable ability to connect and communicate with players coaches and staff, and his teams have always played with the maximum effort. His knowledge of the game as well as his integrity is unmatched."
The Rangers were keen on bringing in a manager this offseason with a playoff pedigree, and the 67-year-old Bochy certainly checked that box as he helped guide the Giants to three World Series championships in his 13 years as the manager in San Francisco.
He also managed the San Diego Padres from 1995-2006, a time frame over which he won four NL West titles and one NL pennant.
Young and Bochy have strong ties dating back to their time together with the Padres in 2006, when Young pitched for the veteran manager.
