(WFAN) First baseman Anthony Rizzo rejected the Yankees’ qualifying offer, but that’s because he's signing a multi-year deal to remain with New York, according to reports.

Rizzo will return to the Yankees on a two-year deal that will guarantee him at least $40 million. He'll get paid $17 million in 2023 and 2024, while the Yankees hold a $17-million club option with a $6-million buyout in 2025, Jeff Passan of ESPN and other outlets reported.

Rizzo blasted 32 home runs and was an anchor at first base for the Yankees in 2022, helping vastly improve their infield defense as New York earned a team Gold Glove award. Rizzo's lefty swing is a welcomed sight in Yankee Stadium, and with defensive shifts being outlawed, his offensive numbers figure to improve even more.
