News of the agreement broke last Tuesday. Cishek will make $5.25 million in 2020 before the White Sox hold a $6.75-million team option for 2021. The contract also includes a $750,000 buyout for the 2021 season.
Cishek, 33, is coming off back-to-back strong seasons for the Cubs, posting a 2.18 ERA in 2018 and a 2.95 ERA in 2019. He's as durable as relievers come, making a combined 150 appearances over the past two seasons. He has averaged more than 57 appearances per season in his 10-year career, and his 569 appearances since 2011 are the sixth-most in MLB.
He has a career 2.69 ERA.
"We believe Steve is a solid addition to our bullpen," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. "He complements our other relievers well, provides a different look to opposing hitters later in games and has consistently proven to be both durable and successful throughout his career."
In a corresponding move, the White Sox designated right-hander Dylan Covey for assignment. He has a 6.54 ERA across three MLB seasons, all with the White Sox.
The White Sox's 40-man roster remains at 40 players.
