This marks the first time Konerko has been on the ballot, as he retired after the 2014 season and had to wait the required five seasons to become eligible.
Konerko spent 16 of his 18 years in MLB with the White Sox. He hit 439 homers and drove in 1,412 RBIs in his career. His 432 homers and 1,383 RBIs with the White Sox both rank second in franchise history, trailing only Frank Thomas. His 2,292 hits are third in White Sox history.
Konerko was a six-time All-Star who also helped lead the White Sox to the 2005 World Series championship.
Players must garner 75 percent of votes from the Baseball Writers' Association of America to earn Hall of Fame honors. There is a second path to gaining Hall of Fame entry as well -- the Today's Game Era ballot, which is how former White Sox outfielder/designated hitter Harold Baines was inducted earlier in 2019.
Among the other players on the ballot is Alfonso Soriano, who spent seven of his 16 MLB seasons with the Cubs. Sammy Sosa and Adam Dunn are on the ballot as well.
Sosa garnered 8.5 percent of the vote in 2019, his seventh season on the ballot.
Voting results will be announced on Jan. 20.
