On Tuesday, ESPN senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that the NFL's investigation into alleged tampering charges against the Atlanta Falcons for their involvement with then-free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins is “ongoing and will not conclude this week, per the NFL.”
This simply means that if the NFL decides to take draft pick(s) away from the Falcons it will be picks for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Yesterday Schefter reported that “sources believe the discipline, which is likely to involve draft picks, is expected to be more severe for the Falcons (than the Eagles).”
The Morning Shift reacted to Schefter’s report earlier today.
Beau Morgan says his biggest issue with the whole situation is that “what we’re talking about seems to have happened during legal tampering.” Beau continues by saying “I get the parameters, but just do away with that then…”, that being the legal tampering period.
Beau suggests the NFL getting rid of the legal tampering period because when situations like this happen the NFL tends to “make it up as they go at times”.
“You’re making it up as you go at times when the league comes down with these rules, you are, there’s no set rule, there’s no set penalty that if you do this this is exactly what you get you’re doing a judgment case by case which works out for some people and doesn’t for others. You do this legal tampering for extra buzz, for extra pub, to make free agency week long instead of just a couple of day pop, and then teams get penalized from it, and there’s a line that you’re like oh we’re okay with all this, but don’t you do this and we’re gonna get you.”
Unless more information comes out it does seem like the NFL is being very nit picky with the Falcons, and while it’s good that the Falcons will most likely not have any draft picks taken away from them this year it seems like they shouldn’t have any taken away from them at all.
