The Jalen Hurts era has been a bit of a tumultuous ride for the Philadelphia Eagles and his future is far from set in stone, with the most recent rumors connecting the Eagles to Russell Wilson.

But Hurts’ performance in Sunday’s win over the Denver Broncos may have been the game he needed to prove he is indeed a franchise quarterback.

At least one former Eagle seems to think so.

Former NFL defensive end Chris Long was impressed with Hurts, particularly with the chemistry he showed with first-round pick Devonta Smith, who caught two touchdown passes in the 30-13 victory.

“Jalen Hurts…played pretty damn good in Denver, dude,” Long said on his podcast, “Green Light with Chris Long.” “I don’t know if it’s the thin air, but the balls were right on target. Him and Devonta Smith, what a connection.

“He’s going to make it hard, if he plays like that, for [GM] Howie Roseman to break that duo up. If he plays like that…you wanna know what to do to make your job secure when your team has a bunch of picks? Just play like that.”

Hurts finished the game 16-of-23 for 178 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. He also picked up 53 yards on the ground on 14 rushing attempts.

It was also Smith’s first multi-touchdown game, doubling his season total to four.

There is still plenty of work for Hurts to show over the remainder of the season, but Long is right: more games like Sunday and it may be tough for the Eagles to move on from him.
