Browns Notes: Scary moment for Amari Cooper during Monday’s practice

BEREA, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Browns receiver Amri Cooper laid on the ground in obvious pain after appearing to land awkwardly on his right foot in the back of the end zone.

A trainer quickly ran to his aid and looked at the back of his right ankle for a few moments while fans nervously encouraged “Coop” and hoped he was OK.

Cooper eventually got to his feet and walked alongside the trainer for a few minutes before watching the rest of practice from the side. It is unclear if Cooper suffered an injury that could affect his availability in camp going forward.

“I haven’t gotten the full report. I’ll update you guys [Tuesday],” head coach Kevin Stefanski said regarding the potential injury.

Earlier in practice, quarterback Deshaun Watson hit Cooper for a touchdown during an 11-on-11 red-zone drill.

Still perfect – Rookie Kicker Cade York continues to be perfect in team field goal drills.

York drilled a 46-yard field goal after the kicking team ran onto the field to beat the clock with a last second kick.

He then hit his next five tries with ease from 33, 37, 40, 42 and 51 yards out.

His final, and deepest, kick of the period sailed through the uprights with plenty of room to spare.

Special guest – Congressman Tim Ryan watched practice from the sidelines and visited with owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam. He also visited with Stefanski after practice.

Ryan, a Warren, Ohio native, is also a candidate for the U.S. Senate.

Coach Thomas – Presumed future Hall of Famer Joe Thomas was back in Berea Monday and late in practice Thomas pulled a few of the offensive lineman aside and gave them a clinic – while wearing sandals too – on various blocking techniques and proper footwork.

Notable quotable – “I thought it was awesome to see No.78 walking out here in his pads. I told you guys - he’s worked so hard. I’m really proud of how hard he’s worked. I was here in late June and I looked out and he’s on the field with a bunch of offensive linemen putting them through drills. That just doesn’t happen very often in late June in given cities. It’s still a process. He’s not all the way back. We have time to work him back up to speed. I’m really excited to see 78 out there.” Stefanski on right tackle Jack Conklin, activated off active/PUP Monday morning.

Puppy pound counter – Six puppies were adopted Monday bringing the two-day camp total to 16. Since the program’s launch in 2015, 641 puppies from the Northeast Ohio Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) have been adopted by Browns fans at training camp practices.

Roll call – WR David Bell (foot), DT Sheldon Day (back), WR Anthony Schwartz (knee), LB Anthony Walker Jr. (groin), CB Denzel Ward (foot), DE Stephen Weatherly (knee) and WR Javon Wims (illness) did not practice.
