Guardians infielder Andrés Giménez wins AL Platinum Glove
Gimenez becomes first 2nd baseman to win AL Platinum Glove; first Cleveland player since 2016
Cleveland Guardians infielder second baseman Andrés Giménez was named the American League's top defender in winning the Platinum Glove for the 2023 season.
Giménez was announced on Friday as one of two recipients of the Platinum Glove, along with San Diego Padres right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. winning the National League award. Giménez is the first AL second baseman to win the Platinum Glove, as well as the first Cleveland winner of the award since Francisco Lindor in 2016.
Giménez became the second Cleveland player to win multiple Gold Glove Awards at second base earlier this month, joining Roberto Alomar, who won three straight from 1999 to 2001.
Giménez led AL second basemen with 18 outs above average and 23 defensive runs saved, while also turning a career-high 87 double plays in 150 games.
