(93.7 The Fan) The NHL is making a new attempt to expand the reach of women’s hockey.

People may recall last year when Kendall Coyne Schofield was part of the fastest skater competition and had a time that beat Arizona Coyotes forward Clayton Keller.

At this year’s NHL All Star Skills Competition, there will be an Elite Women’s 3-on-3 game.

A single 20-minute period will pit the best women hockey players from the United States against those of Canada.

The intention is to not only add to the rivalry between these two groups, but also give them the attention they deserve as professional hockey players.

There will be no shortage of skill between the two teams as both have multiple former Olympians.

The American team will feature Amanda Kessel, Hillary Knight, and Kendall Coyne Schofield.

Team Canada will ice Marie-Philip Poulin, Natalie Spooner, and Renata Fast.
