College basketball is making its way back to Cleveland and the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse with the 2020 CBS Sports Classic. The venue will host the classic for the first time in the seven years the games have been running.
The doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. ET with North Carolina taking on Ohio State, which will be followed by Kentucky and UCLA. All four teams are expected to be ranked entering the regular season.
Chris Holtmann’s Ohio State squad enters 3-3 in the lifetime of the event. OSU has played North Carolina before in the classic and have yet to come away with a win. UNC beat the Buckeyes 86-72 back in 2017 while also toppling OSU in the first ever CBS Sports Classic game in 2014, 82-74, at the United Center.
Fan attendance at the 2020 CBS Sports Classic continues to be evaluated. The release states that “The health and safety of fans and everyone involved in this event is a top priority, and any fan attendance policies will, at a minimum, follow the guidelines outlined in the Responsible RestartOhio plan.”
The event will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, and broadcast on CBS Television Network. That date already sits with importance for OSU as the Ohio State football team could be competing for a Big Ten title that Saturday as well.
