In an attempt to set themselves apart from the NFL, the USFL announced a set of rule adjustments that aim to add layers of competition.

The biggest rule change that NFL fans beg to see is an adjustment to the overtime system.

The USFL is implementing an overtime that is described as a best of three shootout.

Each team will lineup at the 2-yard line and attempt scrimmage plays and the winner will be the result of the best 2 of 3.

If the game is still tied after the first rounds, the overtime will move to a sudden death format.

The second big change will be found in the points after touchdowns.

In the upcoming USFL season, teams can make an attempt for 1, 2, or 3 points.

The extra and 2-point conversions replicate that of the NFL, but there is the option for a third point.

The scoring team can take a scrimmage play from the 10-yard line and a score would be three extra points.

A single score can give a team nine points and a two-score game can as wide as 18 points.

Looking to give teams more chances to keep the ball, the USFL will give teams a chance to have an alternate for an onside kick.

Rather than kicking the ball, teams can take a 4th and 12 from the 33-yard line.

If they get the first down, they keep the ball.

The final big rule change could open the playbook the most for teams.

Offenses will have the option to take two forward passes before the line of scrimmage.

A quarterback can make an initial pass to gain yards, but as long as the ball is still behind the line of scrimmage, the receiver can then take another forward pass to a different downfield receiver.

The new rules hope to add to the competitive nature of the league and some of them could be fun to see in practice.
