The Memphis Tigers basketball celebrated the afternoon with a blowout 83-61 win over the SMU Mustangs.

Here's 92.9's Jason Smith's game recap:

Final Memphis (State) 83, SMU 61: Tigers improve to 12-6, 4-1 in AAC play. Right in thick of things in AAC race heading into big one at Temple next week. Brewton 20 points, Harris 14, Davenport 12 and Parks/Thornton with 11 apiece. Mphs held SMU to 36.2% FGs, 5 second-chance pts.

Kareem Brewton actually credited the jerseys. 92.9's Geoff Calkins pointed out that Penny Hardaway's team was the last to wear "Memphis State". He added this:

At this point, the way they're flinging the ball around, Tigers may as well be wearing Globetrotter uniforms.

92.9's John Martin added:

This is a complete performance by Memphis today.

92.9's Connor Dunning was feeling the spirit as well:

Watching a Memphis basketball team filled with Memphians, with more on the way, being lead by Penny Hardaway while they wear Memphis State unis is truly a dream come true.Another example of sports being perfectly poetic. Something special is happening in Memphis. #Choose901 https://t.co/zr14Cj2Km6

Watching Memphis today I’d suggest they change the school name back to Memphis State.
