Through two weeks, it's obvious that the Dallas Cowboys could use a little more juice from their running backs, but the organization doesn't see it that way.
The Cowboys' trio of Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn plodded their way to 57 yards on 17 carries in Sunday's blowout loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.
Dowdle, who started Sunday, led the way with 30 yards on 7 carries at an average of 4.3 yards per touch, while Ezekiel Elliott (6 for 16 yards) and Deuce Vaughn (4 for 11 yards) averaged a dismal 2.7 and 2.8 yards per rush.
The Cowboys have veteran running back Dalvin Cook waiting in the wings on the practice squad, but it appears they aren't quite ready to pull the trigger on activating the four-time Pro Bowler.
When asked Tuesday by Shan and RJ on 105.3 The Fan about Cook's chances of being called up to the active roster for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said a change wasn't necessary.
“We were pleased. ... We could’ve had some better protection with our running backs. ... I don’t necessarily see a change that would involve [Dalvin] Cook this week," Jones said.
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones provided more insight on the team's line of thinking with the running back room when he told the K&C Masterpiece on Monday that the team being forced to abandon the run due to the lopsided score on Sunday made it "real difficult" to judge their run game.
