Jerry Jones doesn’t seem too moved one way or the other by Trevon Diggs’ exchange with a reporter Sunday night in San Francisco.
The Cowboys corner confronted WFAA reporter Mike Leslie in the tunnel following Sunday’s loss to the 49ers. Leslie had questioned Diggs’ effort chasing down George Kittle in the second quarter in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Diggs saw the tweet after going into the locker room, and knowing Leslie was outside, proceeded to return to the tunnel and tear into him.
After Leslie asked Diggs if he wanted to talk about the play, Diggs fired back “talk about deez nuts’ as he returned to the locker room.
Diggs has since admitted on Micah Parsons’ podcast that he “let my emotions get the best of me,” but still said he thought the tweet was unnecessary and using his “name for clicks.”
Asked about the incident Tuesday in his weekly appearance on Shan & RJ, Jones said he doesn’t think it is a sign of focus being in the wrong place.
“Not at all, not at all,” Jones responded. “They’re focused on they’re disappointed that they didn’t make a play or that they are more aware than anybody about what they might not have done – where they busted an assignment, could have made a play – so it doesn’t surprise me at all. I have absolutely no comotion with dealing with emotion.
“Now, we all realize we need to, if you will, bite your lip where you need to. To that end, you want to not overdo it – I don’t even need to remind you guys, I heard your buildup to the show just a minute ago. You were on with Tirico and you kind of giggling, again, about the dustup that we had. So, the bottom line is this is an emotional game, and it doesn’t alarm me in any way to see the manifestation of emotion.”
Confrontations between players and journalists happen plenty, but it was the "deez nuts" retort that really turned heads in the Diggs situation.
Jones admitted he was unfamiliar with the term.
"Well, you know, in that context, no," Jones said. "I would have to hear it said in context. … But if you want to know what it looks like, I’m sitting here with a half smirk."
